Malnutrition
It is an important threat in developing countries. It is estimated that 2.2 milion children under 5 die every year of malnutrition. In Kenya, the infant and the under-five mortality rates are 77 and 115 per 1000 live births respectively. The main underlying cause of such high mortality is Malnutrition.
Two basic objectives of the management of acute malnutrition:
1. to prevent malnutrition by early identification, public health interventions and nutrition education;
2. to treat acute malnutrition to reduce associated morbidity and mortality
