Vincent Poon :: Episode V - The Desert Strikes Back!

To make up for the loss in the first day Pawel arranged a local expert to take us to the Camel Mountain and Mos Espa (Star Wars film location) at 6am; followed by a tour in the Palmeraie in Nefta. After that we continued our 2nd day itinerary to cross east through the saltless and waterless salt lake to arrive in Douz where we could have some thrilling action in the middle of the desert at 40C.

The afternoon was spent driving to Ksar Ghilane (100km deep in Sahara) where we were supposed  (but too late) to enjoy swimming in a natural lake and a night under the tent (together with the crying, howling and fighting sounds of unknown animals nearby)...Of course free heating  was always supplied....

First thing was to look for the toilet, ok it was at the back of the building...
In fact, like the coffee shop, it was also in the middle of nowhere.. (and like all other toilets, the only liquid was that came from you or your predecessors)
Back to the shop we saw many people posted their name cards or left their writings on the wall
and the kitchen was really primitive, don't expect icecream in the middle of nowhere

I always wondered where did these bones come from...
Bir Soltane, cafe in the middle of nowhere..
Next we passed by some communication tower. These kind of structures were usually guarded in case terrorists came to destroy them.
Then we passed by a herd of sheep..

It seems it was a place where the local shepherds rear their sheep
Lambs, sheep and goats, you get to see them all here
This was our jeep, btw
Near Bir Soltane was an ancient water well
