Vincent Poon :: The Old and the New Town of Ljubljana

Like most capital cities, Ljubljana was never intended to be our primary focus during our stay in Slovenia given our limited time there.

We didn't have time for the museums nor the castles and it turned out that the highlights were really the architectural gems and the lively markets.

Front door of the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation
At our time of visit there was some filming in the square
In the square was a model of the city. From this we could clearly see the old and the new town of Ljubljana. Across the river where the castle hill is the old town and on the other side is the new town
hmm.... no wonder why there were not many men wandering around the old town after dark...

Across the triple bridge is the town square, at the far end on top of the hill is the Ljubljana castle
You can reach the castle by cable car
Ljubljana castle at night
Mestni Trg (Town Square) is dominated by the Town Hall and the fountain of the three rivers

There are lots of cafes and restaurants in the Town Square nowadays
We came across a street performance, which was quite good honestly
Robba’s Fountain of the Three Rivers (1751) symbolizes the three main rivers of central Slovenia
The three titans with their gushing urns represent the three rivers of Carniola – the Sava, Krka and Ljubljanica
