Vincent Poon :: The Old and the New Town of Ljubljana
 
Like most capital cities, Ljubljana was never intended to be our primary focus during our stay in Slovenia given our limited time there.
 
We didn't have time for the museums nor the castles and it turned out that the highlights were really the architectural gems and the lively markets.

The Ljubljana Central Market, behind that is St.Nicholas Cathedral
If you have got time, you could explore the river with a paddle boat, definitely an experience!
On the ground level is the Central Market, underneath that are restaurants and more shops

Further along the river we came across the bridge known as 'Ugly Duckling', seems not ugly any more.
Straight ahead is the Cobbler's or Shoemakers Bridge, also by Jože Plečnik 1932
There are willows and restaurants on both sides of the river

Designed for pedestrians by Jože Plečnik in 1929, the three-lane Triple Bridge was part of the renovation of the riverbank area
coin pressing machine in front of the flower temple - I need to get one with the Ljubljana dragon!
Across the triple bridge is the  Preseren Square. The red building is the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation
The Church was built in 1660 and Its red colour is symbolic of the Franciscan monastic order. The highlight was the altar which I didn't get a chance to look at
